Georgie Cooney is a dedicated and fully qualified teacher, author and dyslexia specialist committed to fostering a positive learning environment for all children. With extensive experience teaching in diverse educational settings, Georgie has cultivated a deep understanding of learners with Specific Learning Difficulties. She has spent numerous years training teachers to effectively teach and support these learners. As a qualified diagnostic assessor of Specific Learning Difficulties in the UK and a specialist teacher, Georgie brings a wealth of expertise to her practice.

Georgie serves as a Coordinator and Dyslexia Tutor at the Dyslexia Association of Ireland (DAI). She also has her own tutoring business called DyslexiaSpell. On occasion, she can also be seen going into schools to give training on behalf of CyberSafeKids, Ireland.

Before moving to Ireland, Georgie had a variety of teaching roles, including teacher-training for Partners in Education and OCR (Oxford Cambridge Reward). Furthermore, she was an Inclusion Manager, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and Learning-Support Coordinator in a number of different state schools as well as some private settings.

In March 2020, Georgie released her own spelling resource (with Routledge Publishers), “Who Put The Spell Into Spelling?,” comprising a storybook and workbook set designed to aid learners through the use of Spelling Rules. A few years later, Routledge published her third book, ‘From Tragic to Magic’ – A Phonological Fairytale. This is to help the development of language and literacy through phonological awareness.

With a teaching career spanning over two decades, Georgie continues to be passionate about teaching, advising and supporting learners with dyslexia and other learning challenges. Her latest endeavour includes cohosting a podcast on Neurodiversity with Timmy Long, called The Long Way Back.
